Floyd Donner “Don” McCloskey, Sr., born 12/29/1923 in Marshall, Texas, joined his wife Mary Louise, mother Meredith Abbot, father Charles McCloskey, brothers Kendall and Richard McCloskey and stepbrother, Vincent “Emery” Cox in heaven on Friday 12/08/2017. He is survived by his loving family: his daughter, Donna Rankins (husband Stan), her son, Warren (wife Rose), her step daughter, Leslie (husband Michael), her grandchildren Warren and Brandon, his daughter, Kathleen McCloskey, her children Heath (wife Stephanie), Brittany and Beau, her grandchildren Matthew, Tristan, and Landon, his son, Don McCloskey, Jr. (wife Kim), his children Janine Ann (husband Andrew), Gordon (wife Kelly), and Lauren, his grandchildren, Davin, Max, Norah, Luke, and Quinn, his daughter, Mary Flowers (husband Steve), her children Michael and Ross, former son-in-law, Hayward Cantrelle, stepsister, Hilda Cox deVerges and many nieces and nephews. Floyd was raised in Algiers, LA. He lived in Gretna, LA and Hattiesburg, MS. In his later years, he moved to Marrero, LA. Floyd served during World War II in the Army Air Corp and was stationed in India. He retired after a long career as a conductor with railroad. He was a fourth degree in the Knights of Columbus, and an active member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. He showed his devotion to Our Lord through praying the Divine Mercy Rosary daily in remembrance of his wife Mary. He read the newspaper front to back every day. He appreciated shopping for bargains, and loved giving anything he had to those he felt might enjoy it. Family and friends are invited to visitation at St. John Bosco Catholic Church on Saturday December 16 at 9:30 AM, 2114 Oakmere Dr, Harvey, LA 70058. A mass will follow visitation at 11:00 AM.
