Faye Blanchard Fortmayer

Faye Blanchard Fortmayer was born in New Orleans on February 10, 1946, to the late Eddie Paul Blanchard and Annie Leblanc Blanchard. Raised in Gretna, Louisiana, she was a graduate of West Jefferson High School, Class of 1964. She was the sister of the late Yvonne Hayes.

Faye was the devoted wife of Henry B. Fortmayer, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. She was the loving mother of Tina Fortmayer and her husband, Charles Arabie; proud grandmother of Ashley Moynihan and her husband, Thomas, Caitlin McDaniel and her husband, Hunter, and Brandon Mitchell; and cherished great-grandmother of Piper Moynihan, Emmett Moynihan, and Atlas McDaniel.

Faye retired from Jefferson Parish Schools after 30 years of dedicated service. A devout Catholic, she was a former parishioner of Visitation of Our Lady Catholic Church, St. Joachim Catholic Church, and St. John Bosco Catholic Church. Most recently, she received the sacraments at home through the ministry of volunteer Edie Meaux from Immaculate Conception Parish.

Faye was known for her green thumb and her love of plants and gardening. She delighted in shopping for bargains. She took great joy in preserving her family’s holiday traditions and enjoyed trips to the Gulf Coast casinos with her husband.

Faye will be remembered for the love she gave so freely to her family and for the many friends who became like family throughout her life. Her devotion to her faith and family will remain a treasured part of her legacy.

Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Westwego, Louisiana, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 from 9am to 11am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am, with Interment thereafter at the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.
