Rest in Peace
Forever in Our Hearts
Ethel Babin Abadie
Born December 19, 1941; Died October 16, 2021
This shepherded sheep has returned “gently into the night” to her much awaited homecoming on this fine day of October 16th, 4:15AM at home in Westwego, Louisiana. Ethel Babin Abadie, of 79 years, was a native of Plaquemine, Louisiana raised in Algiers, Louisiana, beloved wife of the late Russell Abadie, Sr. of 56 years, a parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church and resided in Westwego, Louisiana for the past 18 years. She was a 1959 graduate of Martin Behrman High School, and a retired federal employee with the United States Navy in New Orleans after serving in various locales such as Jacksonville, NC, Oak Harbor, WA and Kailua, HI. Small pleasures were her mainstay whether it be engaging in simple conversations or the breaking of bread with others under her beloved New Orleans canopy or excursions with the local senior center or her love of cinema and musicals especially of halcyon days. She oft reminisced about the live performances of innumerable top stars of yesteryear that she attended or the venues dotted around New Orleans where she would dance the night away with her dear sister and girlfriends. Also she fancied games and puzzles to stimulate her mind all the same. Typically reticent in judgement and an avid listener, those who knew her well, also knew of her generous heart to others and even more so to her fond love of animals. Predeceased by both her parents, Gabriel Babin, Sr. and Florence Babin as well as her six siblings: Elmo, Gabriel Jr., Earl, Charles (Burt), Norman Babin and Genevieve Hebert. She is survived by her only son, Russell Abadie Jr. and “like a daughter”, Kristi Svane along with double first cousins, cousins, nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are encouraged to light a votive candle whether at church or home in remembrance of her spirit as her celebration will have already been performed in a simple private affair graveside at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by the time of this printing. Que sera sera. MOTHE FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may offer condolences at mothefunerals.com.
