Ernest Briant Norman, III

d. January 27, 2024

Ernest Briant Norman III of New Orleans passed away peacefully at home on January 27, 2024, after a brief illness. He was 82 years old.

Born in New Orleans in 1941 to Emma Couret Norman and Ernest Briant Norman Jr., Ernest grew up in rural Algiers. There he developed his love for the outdoors and spent his childhood riding horses, catching snakes, fishing and learning about local wildlife.

Ernest graduated from high school at 16 years old from Georgetown Preparatory School in Maryland, after attending Catholic grade schools in New Orleans. Following high school, Ernest received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Northwestern State University. He also attended Tulane Law School and graduate school at Michigan State University, to build his knowledge within real estate development and management, which would later become his career. Ernest served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves during the Vietnam War.

Ernest enjoyed a long career in real estate development and management, oil and gas investments and general contracting. Much of his career was spent managing apartment and condominium complexes in the Greater New Orleans area and the Gulf Coast.

Ernest served on various boards and committees throughout his life. He once served as President of the Louisiana Affordable Housing Management Association, Regional Vice President of the National Apartment Association, Member and Multi-Family Chairman of the Louisiana Housing Finance Agency, President of the Apartment Association of Louisiana and President of the Apartment Association of New Orleans. He was also once a member of the Board of Directors for STAIR and Member of the Board of Regents at Our Lady of Holy Cross College. He was also a member of numerous Carnival organizations throughout his life.

Ernest is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda, his daughter, Chesley Norman (Mathias) Blixtberg, son, Ernest Briant Norman IV, and his two grandsons, Erik Charles Blixtberg and Anton William Blixtberg. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their children. Ernest is preceded in death by his parents, Emma Couret Norman and Ernest Briant Norman Jr., his sister, Margaret Helen Norman, and his brothers, John Hudson Norman and Thomas Henderson Norman.

Ernest was an avid outdoorsman throughout most of his life and enjoyed sharing his colorful stories and jokes on fishing and hunting trips with his family and friends. Ernest will be remembered most of all for his sense of humor, devotion to his family and his love of animals, especially his Catahoulas.
