Elvira G. Hebert, lovingly known to many as “Grams,” passed away peacefully at her home in Slidell, Louisiana on May 7, 2026, at the age of 99, surrounded by the love of her family.
Elvira was born on August 11, 1926, in Zwolle, Louisiana to Eli Garcie and Josephine Sepulvado. She lived a long, vibrant, and beautiful life filled with love, laughter, music, and devotion to her family.
During World War II, Elvira worked as a welder in the shipyards, where she met the love of her life, Hubert “Bobby” Hebert, Sr. Together they built a life rooted in love, family, and hard work. She spent 70 wonderful years as a resident of Gretna, Louisiana before moving to Slidell, where she spent the last 10 years of her life surrounded by family.
Elvira never met a stranger. She was known for her warm heart, infectious laugh, vibrant personality, and the joy she brought everywhere she went. She loved playing cards, visiting the casino, taking mountain vacations and cruises, cruising the waterways on a pontoon boat, listening to Elvis Presley, singing, dancing, and making people laugh. Above all else, the greatest joy of her life was spending time with her family, whom she loved deeply and unconditionally.
She is survived by her children, Hubert “Butch” Hebert, Jr. (Marcia), Judy Womack (Ray), Ronald Hebert, and daughter-in-law Linda Hebert; her 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; her brother and sister; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish her memory forever. Her surviving sister recently celebrated her 104th birthday, a testament to the strength and longevity of their family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hubert “Bobby” Hebert, Sr.; her parents, Eli Garcie and Josephine Sepulvado; her son, Glenn Hebert; two brothers; and three sisters.
Elvira was deeply loved by so many and will be greatly missed, but the love, laughter, and memories she gave to her family will live on forever.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Elvira’s life on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at MOTHE Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, Louisiana 70058. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., with a Mass in the chapel beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will take place afterward at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1225 Whitney Avenue, Terrytown, Louisiana 70056.
