Elsner Joseph “EJ” Orgeron, Jr. passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the age of 82 years. Loving father of Elsner J. “Tre” Orgeron, lll (Lois), Martin H. Orgeron, and Judith O. Haydel (George). Beloved partner of the late Maria “Kay” Daigle and bonus dad to Johnell Morgan. Son of the late Elsner J. Orgeron, Sr. and Agnolia Clause Orgeron. Brother of the late Mary Louise Cleveland (Jerry) and Regina “Emelda” Voisin (Charlie). A proud Pawpaw to his 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. EJ, lovingly known as “Uncle Boy”, is survived by many nieces, nephews, and loving relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. EJ was a lifelong resident of the West Bank of New Orleans and a well-known barber since the young age of 16 years. He attended Saint Joseph Elementary School, New Orleans Academy, and graduated from Holy Name of Mary High School in 1963. At 16 years old, he began cutting hair in his father‘s shop: Orgeron’s Barber Shop, on Hancock Street in Gretna, LA. He spent his life serving his community with his talent, his charisma, and his generous spirit. Outside of work, EJ loved hunting with his boys, fishing with his grandkids, going on adventures with Kay, traveling to Las Vegas, and dabbling in the commodities. He also enjoyed a good joke, a jog in Audubon Park, a motorcycle ride with the wind in his hair, and a spin around the dance floor. He lived a full life and was a happy man. My brothers and I would like to especially show our gratitude to our cousins, Cynthia and Dale Hunter, who lovingly helped us take such wonderful care of our dad.
A celebration of EJ‘s life will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 610 6th St. Gretna, LA 70053 on Tuesday, November 24, 2026 beginning with a visitation at 9:00 am followed by a Mass at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
