Elmer Anweiler, who entered eternal rest on June 17, 2024, was a beloved husband to the late Marguerite Bartholomew Anweiler and a father figure cherished deeply by Bobby Bartholomew (Labetha), Karen Anweiler, Gerard Anweiler (Nina), Timothy Anweiler, Jennifer Chiasson (Erron), Elmer John Anweiler, and Shelly Anweiler (Frederick Cruel). His legacy is carried forward by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each a testament to his enduring love and guidance.
Born in Ottawa, IL, and a dedicated resident of Marrero, LA, Elmer, at 91, bravely served his country in the United States Air Force and Army during the Korean War, where he honed his skills as a helicopter mechanic amidst the rigors of nuclear testing. His hands crafted more than just model trucks; they built dreams and carved out a life of devotion to family and community. An avid gardener, he nurtured not only plants but the souls of those around him, finding solace in the beauty he cultivated.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, John Conrad Anweiler and Ethel Marie Cray Anweiler, and his siblings Harvey, Robert “Bob”, Shirley, Helen, Esther, Betty, Dorothy, Clarence, and Joseph. Their memories, like his, will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
A hero in every sense, Elmer's life will be celebrated at a Funeral Service to be held at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy, Harvey, LA, on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 10:15 AM. Interment will follow at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA, at 12:30 PM. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 9 AM until 10:15 AM.
