Edgar, age 37, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Guatemala to his loving parents, Antonia Herandez Lopes and Adrian Cortez , Edgar was a man of deep faith, immense courage, and profound kindness.

Seeking a better future for himself and his family, Edgar made the brave journey to the United States to start life over. Through hard work, determination, and an unwavering positive spirit, he successfully built a beautiful new life. Edgar was known by all as a loyal, selfless person who was always there for anyone in need. He brought that same passion to his profession, genuinely loving his work and taking pride in everything, he did.

Above all, Edgar was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband to his wife, Mari Cortez, and a proud, dedicated father to his two sons, Jason Cortez (12) and Yvan Cortez (8). His family was his world, and he fought a fierce, heroic war against cancer, doing absolutely everything possible to stay on this earth for them. While he lost his physical battle with illness, Edgar won the ultimate war—gaining his eternal reward to be at peace with God.

He is survived by his wife, Mari Cortez; his sons, Jason and Yvan and countless friends and extended family members who will forever carry his legacy of love and strength.

Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy, Harvey, LA on Saturday, August 8. 2026 from 11 AM until Funeral Service time at 4 PM. Interment private.
