Earl Darnall (Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Earl) passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 1, 2025. For almost 92 years he lived a life full of love, laughter, good friends, fun and good food.Born on September 8, 1933, in Paducah, Kentucky to the late Bedie Peck Darnall and Clifton Charles Darnall, Earl lived in this beautiful country setting until his family relocated to Detroit, Michigan when he was under the age of ten. Earl enlisted in the United States Navy in 1953 and served as a radio operator until honorably discharged. He continued to be a licensed radio operator after his service ended. He and the late Jean Monies Darnall married on September 6, 1956, and remained committed to each other for over 64 years loving her dearly each day. Earl began his lifelong career with International Business Machines (IBM) in1957 and worked diligently until his retirement in 1992. While at IBM, he attended Loyola University in New Orleans, LA to further his education. Earl was promoted to Senior Customer Engineer of IBM Electric Typewriter Division in 1964, and later claimed the title of District Field Manager, along with many other awards and accolades from IBM. Some of the coworkers from IBM became friends sharing many good times and fishing adventures throughout his life. As member of Christ the King Catholic Church since 1961, Earl was active in the Holy Name Society and continued to attend church until just a few years ago. He also enjoyed the community by participating in Terrytown Golden Age Club, Terrytown Grand Squares, and other sports teams for bowling, basketball, and tennis. Earl was an avid fisherman passing on the love of the sport to his sons and grandson. After retirement, he discovered going on cruises, which he thoroughly enjoyed, probably most for the endless buffets. Earl is survived by his children, Lori Darnall Nawn, Scott Darnall (Shaun) and Darren Darnall (Susan), and will forever be remembered as “Grandpa” to Colleen Nawn Haveles (Harry), Chloe Nawn, Colton Darnall (Lauren) and Delaney Darnall. If you knew Earl, you also know that he counted his children and grandchildren as his greatest blessings. His nephews and their families of Michigan, nieces and nephews in Kentucky, and the many nieces and nephews living in the New Orleans metro area will always recall “Uncle Earl” with a twinkle in their eyes. Preceded in death by his parents, Bedie and Clifton Darnall; his brother, Charles Darnall (Helen); and his wife, Jean Darnall, he leaves a vacancy on this earth, but hearts full of love for the beautiful person of Earl Darnall.
