Dorothy "Dottie" Marie Gilmore Brooks

The odometer read 101 on this beautiful Rolls Royce. Dorothy "Dottie" Gilmore originally rolled off the assembly line of Suel and Corrine Gilmore in Philpot, KY February 10, 1922.  In search of a better life, at 19 she left the dirt-poor, but loving family farm, making her first trip to Owensboro, KY. It was there, while working for Ken Rad (which later became General Electric), Dottie met her husband, James D. "J.D." Brooks.

As they traveled the wonderful road of life together, there were short stops in East Orange, NJ, Heflin and Anniston AL, before they settled in New Orleans, LA.  Along the journey they added four passengers, their sons; James "Jim" D. Brooks Jr., Richard Brooks, Michael "Mike" Brooks, and Gary Brooks.

When life took a sharp turn after her husband's untimely passing in 1971, Dottie would shift gears, even learning to drive herself for the first time. The ever glamourous fashionista went to work for Porter Stevens Men's Store where she worked in sales for many years. As it turns out, her movie star looks did not deter men from buying clothes and she was one of their top salespeople until she retired.

That long and winding road came to a stop April 22, 2023. As she slept, the engine finally gave out on that classic beauty.

She led a long, wonderful life with her four children, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews, and was adored by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by (Her Mother, Corrine Gilmore), (Her Father, Suel Gilmore), (Her Son, JIM), (SISTER - Mildred) (BROTHER – Miles), (BROTHER - Kenneth) and (BROTHER-Harold).  A private service will be held in New Orleans, LA followed by services in her home state of Kentucky at a later date.  MOTHE FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family during this difficult time.  Family and friends may offer condolences at mothefunerals.com.
