Donald Anthony Ragas Sr.

July 24, 1938 — December 4, 2022

Donald Anthony Ragas, Sr. peacefully passed away December 4, 2022. He was 84 years of age. Donald, more commonly known as “Duck” to his family and friends was born July 24,1938 in Buras, LA. Son of the late John Francis Ragas Jr. and Antoinette Hihar Ragas, brother of Kenneth (Helen) Ragas, Gary (Hally) Ragas, the late Philomene (Tommy) Ragas Eccles, John Frances Ragas, III, and Marie Ragas Holmes. Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife Bettye Wilson Ragas. Donald will be forever remembered by his children he adored Donald Anthony Ragas, Jr. Angie Ragas Tatford (Archie), and his beloved granddaughters Rachael Therese Tatford and Reese Elizabeth Tatford. Duck is also survived by a multitude of loving nieces and nephews. After graduating from Buras high school Duck enlisted in the Navy. From 1960–1964 he proudly served as a radioman on the USS Fletcher and the USS Benner. Duck’s service saw his ship deployed during the Cuban missile crisis. After serving our country Duck became a licensed crew boat captain and owner. He later worked for Shell oil company. Duck also took pride in his family’s orange grove. A parishioner of Our Lady of Good Harbor and St Patrick Catholic Churches, and he prayed the Rosary faithfully. Duck was a loving father and grandfather, he worked tirelessly supporting his family. Duck had a wonderful sense of humor and was a mesmerizing story teller entertaining his family with stories of his youth. He was of late a resident of Riverbend Nursing Home and we thank them for their care. In lieu of flowers please have masses said in honor of Donald.
Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Visitation at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Port Sulphur, LA on Monday, December 12, 2022 from 10 AM until Funeral Mass time at 11 AM. Interment Our Lady of Good Harbor Cemetery, Buras, LA. Mothe Funeral Homes handled arrangements.
