Dominick Lala Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on February 12, surrounded by the family who loved him beyond measure.
Born on July 21, 1940, Dominick — affectionately known as “Pappy” — lived a full, joyful life rooted in faith, family, music, and love. Nothing brought him greater happiness than time spent with his children, grandchildren, and especially his great-grandchildren. They were his pride and joy, and he carried each of them in his heart every single day.
Dominick had a lifelong love for music, especially swamp pop. His eyes would light up the moment he heard his favorite band, The Dominos. If their song came on, he was the first one on the dance floor and he expected everyone else to follow. Those moments, filled with laughter, music, and movement perfectly captured his vibrant spirit and the way he embraced life.
He shared 52 beautiful years of marriage with the love of his life, Dorothy. Together, they built a strong and loving family and welcomed three sons. Their home was one of warmth, tradition, and unwavering devotion.
He is survived by his sons, Ernie Lala and wife Tammie, and Jeffery Lala and wife Laura; his sister, Brenda Adams (Danny); his grandchildren Brittney (Kurt), Katlin (Jon), Clayton (Kathy), Chelsey (Zach), Rebecca (Zak), Shanna (Mike), and Joseph (Janelle); and twelve cherished great-grandchildren who brought endless light to his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy; his son, Wayne Anthony Lala; his grandson, Brandon Paul Lala; his parents, Eunice Boudreaux Lala and Dominick Lala Sr.; his sister, Shirley Mae Lala; and his brother, Tony Anthony Lala.
Pappy will be remembered for his love of family, his joyful heart, and the way he never let a good song play without taking a turn on the dance floor. His legacy lives on in the family he adored and the memories that will forever echo with music and laughter.
A service to honor his life will be held on Saturday, February 21, at Mothe Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the service. He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery.
