Diane Champagne Fray, age 84, a cherished native of New Orleans, Louisiana, and longtime resident of Gretna, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, in Marrero, Louisiana. Born on February 4, 1942, Diane embodied a life marked by dedication to family, faith, and community.

Diane was a proud graduate of Ursuline Academy and pursued her studies in medical technology at Loyola University New Orleans. Her professional career reflected her commitment to service and care, having worked diligently with the State Board of Health and Barbe's Dairy. Those who knew her admired her steadfast spirit—she was known as a true pepper, resolute and unwavering in her convictions.

A devoted member of the St Cletus Catholic Church, CCD, and the Ladies Club, Diane played an active role in parish life and served as Fair Chairperson, bringing enthusiasm and leadership to her community. She cherished her involvement with the Krewe of Iris, embracing the rich culture and joy of Mardi Gras. Gardening, reading, and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were among her favorite pastimes, which brought her immense happiness.

Diane was the beloved mother of David Fray (Vonda), Jimmy Fray (Faith), and Robert Fray (Misty). She was a loving grandmother to Chad (Nicole), Jessica, Jack, Alex, Austin (Jessica), and Hunter, as well as a proud great-grandmother to Tanner, Jayden, Bailey, and Athena. Diane was the devoted daughter of the late James Champagne and Alice Reinecke Champagne and is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Deacon Ralph T. Fray.

The family extends profound gratitude to the compassionate nurses Melissa and Paula who lovingly cared for Diane at home, as well as to Jade, Keeley, Clarise, Ivy, Rachel, Heather, Bayley, Kate, Chris, Deidra, and the entire skilled nursing facility staff who supported her with kindness and professionalism. Special thanks are also given to Jane and her staff at Tranquil Living, where Diane spent her final days with dignity and comfort.
