David John "T-Dave" Bourgeois, Sr.

David John Bourgeois Sr., age 82, of Westwego, Louisiana, passed away on January 9, 2026.

David was born on December 11, 1943, and was born and raised in Westwego, Louisiana, where he spent his life and became a well-known and respected member of the community. He was affectionately known by many as “T-Dave,” “Uncle Dave,” and “Pawpaw.”

David was the beloved husband of Emelda “Flossie” Bourgeois. He was a devoted father to his late son David “Buck” Bourgeois Jr. (Gwen) and his daughter Kathy Breaux (Danny Jr.). He was a proud grandfather to Dustin Cascio (Lindsay), David Bourgeois III, and Danny Breaux III (Amber), and a cherished great-grandfather to Isabella, Adaline, Emily, and Deacon.

He is also survived by his siblings Rosalie Robichaux (late Stanley), Joe Bourgeois (late Betty), Girard Bourgeois (Beth), and Timmy Bourgeois (Susan), as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Henry “Hank” Bourgeois (late Beverly), and by his parents, Woodrow “Pete” Bourgeois and Lorena Bourgeois.

David worked hard throughout his life, spending 25 years as a shipfitter at Avondale Shipyard and 11 years as a welder at Laitram Machinery. Outside of work, he enjoyed fishing, spending time at the camp, and watching Yankees baseball.

A man of deep faith, David was Catholic and lived his life guided by strong values. He will be remembered most for always being there for anyone who needed help, never hesitating to lend a hand or offer support.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone at Ochsner Home Health, especially Melinda and Chris, and to everyone at Heart of Hospice, especially Dr. Joplin, Dr. Nick, Bridgette, Kaitlyn, and Ireyell, for their compassionate care, kindness, and support.

David John Bourgeois Sr. will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, 146 4th Street, Westwego, LA on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 from 9AM until 12PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church on Wednesday at 12PM. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Mausoleum (Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery), Avenue A and 5th Streets, Westwego, Louisiana.
