Dawit “Dave” Kumbi was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on May 9, 1970 G.C., to his beloved parents, Kumbi Balcha and Aleme Abdi. He was raised in Addis Ababa, where he attended Misrak Comprehensive High School.
In 1985 G.C., Dave moved to the United States, first settling in Maryland. After his arrival, he continued his education at Prince George’s Community College (PGCC). In 1994 G.C., he relocated to New Orleans, where he made his home and worked in the transportation industry for many years.
Dave was known by all as a kind, gentle, and humble soul. He carried himself with quiet dignity, treating everyone the same regardless of status, background, or ethnicity. He had one personality – honest, respectful, and sincere. Though he spoke little, he listened deeply, and his calm presence left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He was deeply loved by his many brothers and sisters, and he shared a special bond with his siblings, who cared for him and stood by him through every season of life. In recent years, Dave faced significant challenges following a serious accident caused by a fall. During this difficult time, his loving sister Genet Kumbi selflessly dedicated her life to caring for him, giving up everything to ensure his comfort, dignity, and well-being. Alongside his family, Dave fought bravely, surrounded by love and support.
Sadly, after a long and courageous journey, Dawit “Dave” Kumbi passed away on December 28, 2025. Though his passing leaves a deep void, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace with his Maker.
Dave will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His gentle spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering kindness will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace. Rest in peace, Dave.
