Daniel “Danny” Joseph Newchurch passed away surrounded by his family on September 12, 2025 at the age of 66. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Mary Beth, and his children Nicole and Andrew (Kasey).

Danny was born on May 14, 1959 to Evans and Celine Newchurch in New Orleans, where he grew up with his three brothers: William, Michael, and Charlie. Danny and his brothers spent many of their formative years with their aunt and uncle Esther and Rusell Mason as well as their Mason cousins: Reve, Rusty (deceased), Veronica (Wayne), Geri (Kenny), Trina (Paul) and Jamie (deceased) (Joe).

He graduated with honors from Archbishop Shaw High School in 1977, then earned his bachelor’s degree from Our Lady of Holy Cross College. Danny worked in industrial sales before pursuing his lifelong dream of obtaining a juris doctorate from Loyola University New Orleans, becoming an attorney in 2003.

An everlasting Mardi Gras fan, Danny loved spending time on the parade route with family and friends, vying for throws. He also enjoyed his time as a rider in the Choctaw, Alla, and Bacchus parades.

In recent years, Danny was invested in town meetings in Gretna, and could frequently be seen riding his scooter around the neighborhood accompanied by his little yorkie Oliver. He loved music and Gretna Fest and could frequently be heard singing along to songs by Willie Nelson and Jimmy Buffet. Other favorites of Danny included the TV series M*A*S*H, western movies, trivia games, and canasta. He could frequently be found playing the slots at the Island View Casino in Mississippi, with his most memorable trip including hitting a mega jackpot. Danny also enjoyed spending time and reminiscing with his Archbishop Shaw classmates.

Danny was a parishioner of St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Algiers.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents Evans and Celine O’Donnell Newchurch, his brother Michael Newchurch, his father-in-law Charles Bourg, as well as his beloved dog Jessica. He is survived by his wife Mary Beth, daughter Nicole, and son Andrew (Kasey), his brothers William (Jane) and Charlie (Margaret), his mother-in-law Carmen Bourg, his sister-in-law Peggy Wilson (Mark), his brothers-in-law Michael and Mitchell Bourg, his sister-in-law Mary Newchurch, numerous nieces and nephews, and his scooter-riding sidekick Oliver.
