Corbert Joseph Plaisance, Sr, age 83, of Marrero, LA went to his eternal resting place on March 6, 2023. He passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. Corbert was born on August 10, 1939 and grew up in Westwego, LA, and lived in Marrero, LA for the last 62 years. Corbert was preceded in death by his father, Herbert J. Plaisance, his mother Celina Loup Reyer, sisters Ruby Creppel, Gretchel Adams, and Dorothy Breaux. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Rita Mable Plaisance, daughter Stacey Plaisance Waguespack (Warren), son Corbert “Bubby” Plaisance, Jr, sister Norma Bourgeois, and brother Van Plaisance. He was the proud grandfather of Warren Oliver Waguespack, Jr. and Nicholas Joseph Waguespack. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Corbert entered the workforce as a teenager, working for various companies as a welder, following in the footsteps of his father. He quickly worked his way up to job superintendent, managing projects both domestically and overseas. He found his calling in the business world, founding Crescent Marine Towing, Inc. in 1977, a pushboat company that has owned and operated as many as 12 boats throughout the inland waterways through good times and bad. In his spare time, he was a dedicated family man, generously enjoying the simple pleasures in life with friends and family, especially his two grandsons. He enjoyed dancing to swamp pop music and cruising. He enjoyed spending time in Picayune fishing, taking care of his horses, swimming, and simply breathing in the fresh air. His love of the water, boating, and beach were a cherished pastime. He was gifted in his ability to light up a room with his quick wit and sense of humor. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome, and was always there to lend a hand, tool, piece of advice, or simply listen to what you had to say. His generosity was known to members of his extended family and friends, who he always helped support over the years.
Corbert was lifelong devoted Catholic, and was as a parishioner and supporter of St. John Bosco Church in Harvey, LA, St. Charles Borromeo of Picayune, MS, Visitation of Our Lady in Marrero, LA, and Immaculate Conception in Marrero, LA. He was always willing to help others out, always seeing the best in people, and led by example. He will be missed dearly by all.
The family wishes to express its deepest and sincere thanks to all of the doctors from LCMC West Jefferson who cared for him throughout the last several years, and the family and friends who were by his side when it was needed most. The family also wishes to thank the nurses from Compassus Hospice for their care and support through this difficult time.
