Clifford James Maher, born on November 5, 1952, son of the late Clifford A. Maher and Laura Maher Buck, loving husband to Donna Royal Maher, departed this earthly life on Monday, December 5, 2022 at the age of 70.
He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Michelle Elladine Maher. Survived by his son Clifford “Jimmy” Maher and wife Jennifer, daughter Amanda Mack and husband Sebastian, his two adored grandchildren Ivan and Lily Mack, and nephew, whom he cherished as a son, Van Dewey Ricks Jr. and wife Ginger. Cliff was one of 8 Irish Catholic children. He is preceded in death by siblings Cheryl, Diane and Joe and survived by Kathy, Kevin, Laurie and Sean. He was also most recently blessed to find his long-lost nephew Willy and wife Lanette, son of his late sister Cheryl. He will be missed by his Aunt Yvonne, who he called “mom”, and his extended Royal family, brother-in-law Cliff and wife Mary and sister-in-law Kathrine and husband Hal. “Unc” was also loved by many nieces, nephews and friends
Cliff served honorably in the United States Marine Corp, achieving the rank of Lance Corporal. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he loved his country. After the Marines, he continued his service to his community by joining the New Orleans Police Department. A 26-year veteran of the NOPD, he held multiple titles, from patrolman to Field Training officer to detective, and retired as the Quality of Life officer in Algiers. He carried on his dedication to Orleans Parish as a probation officer and private investigator. Cliff was a Patriot Life Member of the NRA, as well as a dedicated member of the Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion, Blue Knights, Masonic Lodge and Algiers Shamrock Society.
Aside from all his accomplishments in his professional life, Cliff adored his family and relished in his duties as “Popi”. He loved hosting crawfish boils and BBQing shrimp for family gatherings! He is known and loved throughout his community and will be missed by many.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Celebration of Life on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Mothe Funeral Homes, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA from 11:00 am until 1:30 pm.
