Clem D. Sparkman entered into Eternal Life on December 14, 2016. Beloved brother of William “Pogo” McKay (Elaine), Mary E. Jacobi (Carl) and Mary S. Swazey. Beloved step-brother of Robert “Robin” Sparkman (Judy) and Alan J. Sparkman (Sherri). Dear uncle, great-uncle, nephew and cousins.
Clem was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Jo Brucker Sparkman, Alan G. Sparkman Sr. and his brother, Alan T. Sparkman Jr.
Clem was a graduate of St. Michael Special School. He worked for the State of Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development for 35 years, retiring on his 50th birthday in 2010. After retirement, Clem worked as an usher at the Superdome and New Orleans Arena, which complimented his bubbling personality and love of sports and concerts. Clem had a remarkable memory for dates and events; once repeating, verbatim, a Kellen Winslow play as announced by Howard Cosell, in his Cosell voice, while seated behind Winslow at a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game.
Clem was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church parish in Gretna and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Christ the King Council No. 6870 and served two terms as Grand Knight.
Clem was a bright spot for all who knew him and was a one-of-a-kind friend.
The Memorial Visitation will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 535 Deerfield Road in Terrytown, LA on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 9 AM to 11 AM. A Memorial Mass will follow.
