Clare Cassard Rice

Clare Mary Cassard Rice passed away on December 4, 2024 at the age of 90. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 3, 1934. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Roland (Dutch) Rice. He welcomed and embraced her in heaven along with her mother, Mabel Cassard, sister Jacqueline Ferrera, brother Charles Cassard, and son-in-law Joe Valley. 

Clare is survived by her children Gwen and Jack Foley, Wendy Valley, Randy Rice and Peggy McCloskey, Barbara and George Herrera, Bradley and Marilyn Rice. She adored her grandchildren and they cherished their Granny - Jeanne, Brendan, Erin, Alex, Michael, Patrick, Joel, Alexis, Patrick, Ben, Sean, Austin, Dana, and Clare, along with her great grandchildren, Jade, and Jamie. She is also survived by her dear brother, Kenneth Cassard. Her nieces and nephews loved their Aunt Clare - Chuck, Connie, Kim, Rob, Jenny, Harold, Tina, Gwen,Tiffany, Guillermo and many, many others including wonderful great nieces and nephews. 

Clare loved reading and enjoyed volunteering at the school and public libraries. Hard back books were her favorite gift to share with others. She was an avid puzzle maker and passed down the love of family game night to future generations. She was proud to be honored with receiving The Order of the St. Louis IX Medallion in May of 2019 for her many years of service at Christ the King Catholic Church in Terrytown. The family sincerely thanks all of the caregivers at The Azaleas at Woldenberg Village that took such good care of her over the past 2 years. 

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral mass in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, in Harvey, LA on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 11AM. Visitation will begin at 9AM. Interment will follow immediately at Westlawn Memorial Park in Gretna, LA.
