                                               November 30, 1956 – June 16, 2025

Cindy Schmit Cardon, 68, peacefully passed away on June 16, 2025, in The Woodlands, Texas—just hours after her beloved husband of 45 years, Lee Joseph Cardon, who died on June 15, 2025 [see Lee’s obituary]. Their profound and unbreakable bond carried them side by side beyond this life, a love story that transcends time.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on November 30, 1956, Cindy held her New Orleans heritage close to her heart. Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, she and Lee relocated to Texas, where they created a joyful life together, filled with love, laughter, and the companionship of their cherished dogs—Cayenne, Ozzy, and Beignet. Cindy adored her pups and poured her heart into every moment with them, but her greatest devotion was always to her husband, Lee.

Cindy is survived by her siblings Denise Arabie, Alvin Schmit Jr., Steffan Schmit (Hollie), and Ginger Evans. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews: Sheree Arabie, Megan Arabie, Elijah Arabie, Rachael Schmit (John), Jordan Evans, Katie Evans, Jason Cardon (Jennifer), Julie O’Neil (Jason), Tiffany King (JJ), Logan King (Ala), Brittney Clark (Ted), and Christina Martinez.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin J. Schmit Sr. and Jacqueline Gros Schmit; her husband Lee Cardon; and family members Gary Arabie, Kathy Schmit, and Julie Schmit.

A joint service for Lee and Cindy will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Mass at the Mothe Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Westlawn Memorial Park in Gretna.

A proud graduate of L.W. Higgins High School, Class of 1974, Cindy began her career at the Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court. She later earned her realtor’s license and worked with Richard Berry & Associates in Harvey, LA. Cindy also contributed part-time to Star Engineering.

Known for her vibrant spirit, Cindy delighted in life’s simple joys—browsing antique shops, crafting, shopping for treasures, and sharing live music experiences with Lee. Her quick wit, infectious laughter, and generous heart left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, loving sister and aunt, proud dog mom, and loyal friend. Her life was a reflection of the deep love she gave and received, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.

“Some souls are too beautiful for this world, and so they leave early—together.”

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the EMS team, the Fire Department, and the compassionate staff at Memorial Hermann Hospital, with special thanks to Maddie in IMU, for their exceptional care during Cindy’s final hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Cindy’s memory may be made to the SPCA of New Orleans, a cause very dear to her heart.
