Charles Griffin

Charles Griffin, age 71, departed this earthly home on Monday, December 29, 2025. The baby of the family, he was the devoted son of the late Mary Breaux Griffin and Robert Griffin.

Charles was baptized at Loving Four Baptist Church by the late Pastor Cooper; his steadfast love for God was the light that guided him throughout his life. A proud product of the New Orleans school system, he attended Edgar P. Harney Elementary and Carter G. Woodson Junior High before graduating from B.T. Washington High School in 1973. He pursued higher education at Tulane University, graduating in 1977.

For 33 years, Charles served the St. Charles Parish School System at Destrehan High School. As a beloved mentor and coach, he touched countless lives, instilling the values of education and hard work in the young men he led.

An avid sports fan and former athlete, Charles had a deep-seated love for football and his New Orleans Saints. He found great joy in watching sports and history programs, but his greatest happiness came from spending quality time with his family.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Breaux Griffin and Robert Griffin; his brothers, Robert James Griffin and Edward Griffin; his sister, Earma Robinson; and "brother-in-love," Leonard J. Gibbs.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Andrea Hughes; his loving son, Erin L. Johnson (Hope); and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Wilbert Griffin; his sisters, Olivia Griffin and Delores Griffin-Sip; two "sisters-in-love"; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Relatives and friends of the family, also employees of the St. Charles Parish School System are invited to attend the Celebration of Life on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA 70058. Family hour will begin at 9:00 am, followed by a memorial service at 10:00 am.
