Charlene Lillian Nussbaum White, widow of William J. White, Jr., of Marrero, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023. She was 84 years of age. She was born in New Orleans on October 28, 1938 to the late Carl William Nussbaum and Elizabeth Herquet Nussbaum. She is survived by her three children, Elizabeth White Fidler (Eric), William J. White, III (Nelly) and Helen White Diebold (Archie); her sister, Errolyn Nussbaum Villiarrubia (Don); her sister-in-law, MaryLouise White LaVergne (late Ron LaVergne); grandchildren, Breanna Lynn Diebold, Joshua D. Diebold, Alexander L. Fidler (Grace), Pablo Amador and Vidal Amador; and great grandchildren, Haylie “Kendall” Roux, Julia LeMaire, Evan LeMaire, Owen Diebold and Annalise Diebold. Charlene is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Charlene graduated in 1956 from John McDonough #35 High School in New Orleans, and then attended Soulé Business College.
Charlene retired from the Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court’s office in 2019. She previously worked for both the New Orleans Symphony and the New Orleans Opera which she enjoyed because of her love of music.
A longtime member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church where she loved to worship and sing in the choir. When her children were young, she helped teach music and play piano in Bible School. Her caring and compassionate nature lead her to become a Stephen’s Minister.
As a member of William D. White Chapter No. 141 of the Order of the Eastern Star, she held the office of the Organist for many years.
She loved being “Mom White” to many DeMolay Boys in the 1970’s and 1980’s who gave her a lot of joy. She always had cake or cookies and Hawaiian Punch or tea for them whenever any of the boys just dropped in. Not to mention her homemade chili and hot dogs she made whenever they had parties at her house.
The family would like to thank the wonderful ICU staff at Kenner Regional Hospital, the staff at Inspired Living at Kenner and Compassus Hospice who treated her with dignity and respect and the family with compassion.
The family would also like to give a very special thank you to two angels who have been loving, caring and who worked tirelessly in making Charlene’s last days comfortable, secure and loved. Both angels have also been an enormous help and support to the family.
Family and friends of the family are invited to attend the Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11 AM at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, Louisiana. Interment Hook and Ladder Cemetery, Gretna, Louisiana.
