Cathy Dugas Ryals

Cathy Marie Dugas Ryals, a cherished wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at the age of 72, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on October 5, 1953, to Harold and Verla Walker Dugas in Marrero, Louisiana, Cathy spent her entire life in Westwego and Kenner. She was passionate about collecting Barbie Dolls and enjoyed attending local Barbie shows, cheering on the Saints, and dancing.

Cathy was married to her devoted husband, Kerry Ryals, for 43 wonderful years, and their bond was truly special. Though they did not have children; however, their love extended to the many animals they considered their four-legged family.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Verla Walker Dugas, as well as her brothers-in-law Glynn Hefler, William (Billy) Ryals, Ronald Ryals, her sister-in-law Diane Ryals, and her beloved dogs, Annie, Bootboo, and Dolly.

She is survived by her husband, Kerry Ryals; her supportive sister-in-law Roberta Ryals Culpepper (David); her loving sister Cynthia Dugas Hefler; her goddaughter Wendy Hefler Stein (Harris Jr.), and numerous other nieces and nephews, all of whom she treasured dearly.

Cathy was blessed from the unwavering support of many devoted friends throughout her life, particularly Windy Aucoin and Vee Terro, whom the family is immensely grateful for their support during her illness. Cathy leaves behind a legacy filled with heartfelt kindness, generosity, and an unbreakable love for her family and friends.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the compassionate ICU staff at East Jefferson Hospital for their care during her final days.
