Carrie Mae Tigler was born on April 27, 1946 to the union of the late Mattie B. Walls and Robert Evans in Copiah County, Mississippi. She was lovingly nurtured and reared in Christ by her parents and her “bonus” father, the late Eugene Walls. On May 31, 2023, she heard the Master call her name and peacefully went home to be with the Lord.
Carrie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Second Pleasant Church in Harvey, Louisiana and continued her christian journey at Regular Baptist Church in Gretna, Louisiana and then at Life Center Cathedral in Marrero Louisiana, where she served with the Sunday School ministry for many years.
Carrie, or as everyone called her: “Mama”, was employed first as an educator in the Jefferson Parish School System and then by United Parcel Service (UPS) for more than twenty‑five (25) years. She attended Frederick Douglas Elementary School, was a graduate of L.B. Landry Jr./Sr. High School, and through hard work and perseverance, obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Holy Cross College (while working a full time job and maintaining her duties of motherhood).
Mama was the epitome of God’s faithful servant and could be relied upon to assist any and everyone who needed help. She nurtured not only her biological children, but so many others in the community, sharing advice, assistance and wisdom to those with whom she came in contact. She was strong both in character and will and managed to find the good in everyone. Carrie was a natural caregiver and her nurturing spirit was always on display.
“If I can help somebody, as I travel along the way…then my living shall not be in vain.”
Carrie Mae Tigler was the loving wife of Oscar Tigler and was the devoted mother of two children: Deatrice Henderson and Jermaine Tigler, and grandmother of one grandchild: Karlie Tigler. She was also the life long, faithful and ever present “love-giver” of her sister, Lillie Harris. Carrie leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, children, grandchild, sister, one brother, John F. Bradley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, the late Andrew Bradley, and two nephews: the late Michael “Peco” Walls and Reverto Harris.
“When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be, when we all see Jesus, we will sing and shout the victory.”
