Carol Chimento Lirette

January 27, 1938 — April 25, 2023

Carol Chimento Lirette, age 85, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and godmother. Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Hilton Joseph Lirette.  Daughter of the late Joseph “Zip” and Helen Acosta Chimento.  Daughter-in-law of the late Octave Frank and Melodia Bourg Lirette. Mother of Debra Lirette Alleman (Wayne), Darla Lirette Dufrene (Neal), Danna Lirette Matthews, Donna Lirette Linden (Albert), and Daniel Frank Lirette (Vanessa).  Grandmother of Kristin and Roy Dave Vedros (Allison), Dr. Morgan Ashley Lirette, Nealie Dufrene Hebert (Steven), Natalie Dufrene Johnson (Blain), Megan Marie Alleman (Veronica), Lauren Catherine Alleman (Devin) and the late Austin Joseph Alleman, Ina Matthews Duhon and Jesse Joseph Matthews, Haley-Lynn Catherine Linden (Teddy), and KatLynn Rose Lirette (Kamerin Sr.).  Great-Grandmother of Joshua and Logan Feurtado, Isabella Vedros, Hilton and Michael Duhon, Kaylee Vargas, Kohl and Kilyn Matthews, Braylen Hebert, Ryder, Rex and Rhett Vedros, Kamerin Joseph Jr. and Tatum Macke.  Sister-in-law of the late Pearl Lirette Champagne (Nathan), the late Adlis Lirette Lanassa (Warren) and the late Daniel Anthony Lirette.  Godmother of Johnny Smith (Vicky). She was born on January 27, 1938 in New Orleans and was a life-long resident of Harvey. She was a 1956 graduate of Holy Name of Mary and attended Immaculate Conception School and Holy Cross College. She retired as a teacher from St. Rosalie Elementary School and a school bus driver (Bus #334) for Jefferson Parish.  She was the previous owner of Carol’s Beauty Salon in Harvey.  She was an active and lifelong member of St. Rosalie Catholic Church, which included Kitchen Fair Co-Chairman (over 50 years) and also a recipient of the St. Louis Medallion. She was also actively involved in the Italian American Society Auxiliary of Jefferson Parish and was a member and Treasurer of the Westbank Safety Club. She was known to the children she taught for her avid ear and teeth pulling and a fun-loving teacher who had a commitment to children with special needs. She was proud of her Italian heritage, had a loving devotion to the Blessed Mother and enjoyed the companionship of her cats, Minou and the late Casper.  Her family is especially grateful to her close friends and caregivers of Otis St, Geraldine “Gerry” Palisi, Jeannette Allain, BJ LeBlanc and the late Mallitta Davis. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 2, 2023 beginning at 9am at St. Rosalie Church, 601 2nd Ave. Harvey, LA.  A Funeral Mass will follow the visitation at 2pm. Interment will follow in Hook & Ladder Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
