Captain Alvin F. Kline, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at the age of 83. Beloved husband of Charlene Wininger Kline for 62 years. Father of Alvin “Chip” Floyd Kline, Jr., Dana Blondiau (Greg), William “Rusty” Charles Kline (Christie) and the late Janine Kline Webb (Mark). Son of the late Rita Darcey Kline and Hillary Kline. Brother of Julia May Kline and the late Hillary Kline (Shirley) and Harriette Kline. Grandfather of Ashton Kline Galt (Josh), Beryl Kline Plaisance (Cameron), Taylor Champagne Kline (Carlee), Brennan Alexander Webb (Erin), Hailey Elizabeth Kline, Zachary Mark Webb (Christy), and William Lamar Kline. Great grandfather of Tucker, Ella, Gracie, Cameron, and Stella. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Holy Name of Mary, a United States Marine Corp Reserve veteran. Alvin’s love for the Mississippi River led him to a fulfilling career as a river pilot for almost thirty years before retiring from the Crescent River Port Pilots Association in 1999. Alvin was an avid hunter, gun collector, coin collector, as well as an aviation enthusiast. His love for the US military could be seen through his endless storytelling and vast military collections. The family will be donating one of his prized aircraft models to the National World War II Museum in his honor. Affectionately known as “Grumpy” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, his playful banter will be missed. He was a native of Algiers, LA and a resident of Gretna, LA for over 40 years. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Mothe Funeral Home, 1300 Vallette Street on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 1pm. Visitation will be held from 11am until 1pm. Interment, Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association or the charity of your choice.
