Bonnie Abadie passed away on December 16, 2016 at the age of 61. She was the beloved wife of Patrice M. Drewes, whom she celebrated 32 wonderful years of marriage. Bonnie was the daughter of the late Herman Joseph and Susan Cheramie Abadie; the sister of "Jeannette" Ruby A. Guidry (Norman), Mitchell James Abadie (Rhea), the late Stephen Paul Abadie (Janet), and the late Al Joseph Abadie. She was the loving mother of Brian Anthony Melancon (Amanda) and Renee L. Gardner and the stepmother of James Joseph Schayot (Kristie) and Rebecca Lynn Schayot (Kristian). She was a devoted grandmother to her 5 grandchildren: Derrick, Shayna, Alexandra, Brian Jr., and Jack. She was a native of Westwego. Bonnie was a professional musician for most of her adult life. A self-taught singer and guitar player, she worked predominately in the Greater New Orleans area. The major bands she played were Mahogany an Square One. She was a 2010 Inductee of the Westbank Musicians Hall of Fame. Bonnie worked as a Paraprofessional for Jefferson Parish Public School System until 1985 when she entered the Gretna Police Academy, fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a police officer. She later became the first female police officer for the city of Westwego. In later years, she served as a New Orleans Umpire, officiating softball games for local playgrounds and high schools. Bonnie loved computers and technology. She was the family/friends consultant for all things computer related! She also loved camping, fishing, boating and gardening. Bonnie was cremated . She wished to have her live celebrated by family and friends, so a party will be held in her honor at a date as of yet to be determined. Notifications will be sent via Facebook to family members.
