Blase Shambra Jr., a longtime resident of Gretna, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on April 6 at the age of 93. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Blase proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of duty and character. Following his service, he built a long-dedicated career with Chervon. He was married to Mary Louise Seckfort Shambra for 70 years and cherished a life centered on faith and family. After retiring from Chevron, he devoted his time to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, taking great joy in attending their games, school events, and Masses.
He was a faithful member of St. Anthony Church, where he served as an usher for many years. In 2017, he received the Order of St. Louis Award in recognition of his exceptional service a distinction honoring dedicated lay Catholics who quietly serve their parishes and ministries.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Blase and Thelma Shambra, and his daughter, Mary Louise “Malou” Shambra Connick.
He is survived by his beloved wife; his children, Blase “Buddy” Shambra III (Jeanne), Michael Shambra (Christine), Julie Shambra Plustache (Jean-Luc), and son-in-law Dutch Connick; his grandchildren, Tracee Connick Brewer (Robby), James Connick (Kendall), Jessica Shambra (Kevin), Blase Connick (Maggie), and Sarah Oliver; and his great-grandchildren, Maximus, Graeme, and Henry Brewer; Cullen and Mary James Connick; and Jesse and Mary Louise Connick.
The family extends special thanks to the staff at The Cancer Center at West Jefferson Medical Center and St. Margaret’s at Mercy for their compassionate care.
Blase will be laid to rest on Tuesday, April 14. Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gretna, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. He will be privately laid to rest at Westlawn Cemetery.
Blase leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, love, and family that will be cherished by all who knew him.
