Barry James Himel, Sr.

Barry James Himel Sr., age 79, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. A native of New Orleans and longtime resident of Belle Chasse.

Barry proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Barry found great joy in spending time in his garden, often sharing stories, and a cold beer with family and neighborhood friends

He is survived by his children, Lora Himel Cullum (Bobby Cullum) and Barry James Himel Jr. (Jennifer Himel); his siblings, Gwen Hinkel, Diane Wilson (Frank Wilson), Wayne Himel (Keith Waguespack), and Wanda Himel (Bob Segura); his grandchildren, Mya Cullum (Claire Kuenz), Ethan Cullum, and Veda Himel; and his great-grandchildren, Grayson Kulpa and Khai Cullum.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Himel and Hazel Hebert; his wife Shirley McReynolds Himel, his sister, Kathy Wakefield; his brother-in-law, Willy Hinkel; and his grandson, Logan Cullum.

Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy, Harvey, LA on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 11 AM. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Visitation will be held from 9 AM until mass time.
