Barbara Lee Louise Herzog Kass of Gretna, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence John Kass Sr.; her father, William Oscar Herzog; her mother, Florence Cooper Herzog; her brothers William D. Herzog, and Robert J. Herzog; and her sister Florence H. Bourgeois. She was the devoted mother of Sharon Landeche (the late Norman), Lauren McGinnis (Thomas “Skip”), Nancy Kass, Marian Pieno (the late Larry), Kerry Kass, Gregory Kass (Mary), and Patrick Kass. She was also preceded in death by her son, Lawrence Kass Jr. (Vanessa). Barbara was a proud and loving grandmother to Norman and Kevin Landeche, Amy Licciardi, Elizabeth Mavromatis, Jennifer McGinnis, Melissa Bustamante, Jason and Erica Surrency, Jamie and Jason Kass, Mark and Troy Pieno, Christine Weill, Kerry Kass Jr., Janice Chaisson, David Kass, Amber Pecoraro, Rachel, Gregory, and Kristen Kass, Patrick and Max Kass and the late William Taulli Jr. She was also blessed with 37 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy. A lifelong resident of Gretna, Barbara retired from the Jefferson Parish School System. She was dedicated to her family and was the heart of every gathering, always going above and beyond in her role as wife, mother, and grandmother. Barbara had a deep love for gardening and creating artwork, which she nurtured throughout her life. Her creativity and green thumb brought beauty to both her home and heart. Her deep Catholic faith was central to her life. She hosted weekly rosaries in her home and led the “Rosary for America” in honor Our Lady of Fatima in the public square. She was also a generous supporter of several charities, always lending a helping hand where it was needed. Barbara was cherished not only by her children and many grandchildren but also by her nieces and nephews. In true matriarch form, she left a legacy of love, service and faith that will live on in all who knew her. The family extends their deep gratitude to her devoted caregivers-Jessica LeCompte, Peggi Edwards, and Jennifer Varnado- for their exceptional care, compassion, and companionship. A heartfelt thanks is also extended to Compasses Hospice for their guidance and support throughout her time at home. A special thanks to St. Anthony Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers, who faithfully brought Holy Communion to Barbara each week. Their devotion allowed her to remain spiritually connected and sustained by her Catholic faith through the end of her life.
