Autrey "Gene" Anthony Matherne entered into eternal rest on October 30, 2025. Beloved husband of Lorena McLean Matherne. Father of Kathryn Wolz (Randy), Debra Dufrene (Dino), David Matherne (Tiffany), and the late Charles Matherne (Robyn). Grandfather of Ryan Matherne, Eldon Dufrene, Jr., Bambi Morgan (Deon), Mary Claverie (Scott), Nichole Dufrene, Dino Dufrene, Jr., Nicholas Dufrene, Charles Matherne, Raymond Matherne (Deena), and Christian Matherne. Great-grandfather of Jai, Haze, Trinity, Kirstin, Marquell, Byiren, Rahiean, Deon Jr., McKenzie, Sabastian, Sterling, Tanis, Zoe, Nicholas Jr., Paul, Infinity, Emersyn, and Joseph. Son of the late Cleveland Matherne and Bernadette Eulah Brown Matherne. Brother of Harold Matherne, Donald Matherne, Patrick Matherne, Robert Matherne, and the late Bertha Rudolph, Harrington Matherne, Wesley Matherne, Nancy Ogle, Patsy Wagner, Louella Rudolph, Melvin Matherne, Allen Matherne, and Sandra Matherne. Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Age 89 years, a native of Gheens, LA and resident of Marrero, LA. Gene worked as a crane operator until retirement in 1999 from Cooper T. Smith. He was an avid Saints, Pelicans, and LSU Fan; and he loved fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all.
Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the Parlor of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Monday, November 3, 2025 at 11 AM. Interment Restlawn Park Cemetery, Avondale, LA. Visitation will be held from 9 AM until service time.
