Anthony H. Vergona passed away peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2022, at the age of 84. He was born in Algiers, La. on July 27, 1938, to the late Thomas and Saraphine Vergona.
Tony was a Third Order Franciscian. He belonged to The Italian Culture Society, as well as the Italian Marching Club for more than 30 years. He really enjoyed marching in the parades with his friends and especially his son Anthony. Tony was a eucharistic minister at St Rosalie Catholic Church and at West Jefferson Hospital for over 16 years. He retired from BP Alliance Refinery after many years of service and hard work.
The family would like to sincerely thank his niece, Kathy Hardy Eaves (Ricky), for all her love, care, help, and devotion throughout the years and especially during the last couple of years prior to his passing. Also, a special thanks to all the nurses, aids, and friends at Our Lady of Wisdom Nursing Home.
Anthony H. Vergona is survived by his loving children, Maria Perdue (Kevin) and Jody Spears (Eldon); his grandchildren, Arlo Spear and Abigail Spear, and his great grandchildren, Mila Spear and Chloe Marie Vanness.
Tony is preceded in death by his wife, Kay L. Vergona, his son, Anthony J. Vergona, and his parents, Thomas and Saraphine Vergona, as well as his siblings, Tom Vergona, Grace Vergona, Dorothy Vergona Trevil (George), Joseph Vergona (Edna Mae), and Ruth Mary Vergona Hardy (Kenny).
A Memorial Mass will be held for Tony at a later date and time.
