Amadeo Manzanares passed away February 27, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Zandra Lacayo Manzanares. Son of the late Amadeo Manzanares and Ermisenda Suazo Manzanares. Father of Karen M. Prestenbach, Patricia M. Gattuso (Brad), Brian I. Manzanares (Angel), and Krystal M. Broome (Jerry Jr.). Grandfather of Ava Prestenbach, Emma Gattuso, Bradley Gattuso, Jr., Adam Gattuso, Sayde Murphy, and Brian I. Manzanares, Jr. Brother of Rene Manzanares, Esther M. Bourgeois, and the late Jose Manzanares. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Age 73 years, a native of La Lima, Honduras, and a resident of Gretna, LA.
Amadeo lived a long, full, and adventurous life. He came to the United States at the age of 18 and was drafted by the marines during the Vietnam War, only two months after arriving to New Orleans. After exceptional scores on his intelligence test, he was given the opportunity to work as a pharmacist at Elgin Air Force Base where he remained for six years until he was discharged. Amadeo was self employed in the import/export industry as a freight forwarding broker. As a self made man, he believed in honest hard work and built his business into a very successful operation. In his younger years, he gave back to the community by coaching soccer for youth groups. He eventually built a team which he named "Olympia". His players admired him for his dedication and positive encouragement. Amadeo was also known for his witty sense of humor, always making light of any situation. He was a model citizen, generous friend, and a wonderful husband and father. He will always be loved and never forgotten.
Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1:30 PM.
