Althea Mae Ullo Chimento, 89, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026 surrounded by her family at her Mandeville home.
A native of Marrero, LA and delighted with her Italian-American heritage, Althea was known for her warm smile, deep love for her family, and her Catholic faith. A graduate of Dominican High School in New Orleans, Althea was the recipient of the St. Louis Medallion for outstanding devotional service while a parishioner at St. Cletus Catholic Church in Gretna, LA. At St. Cletus she taught the Catechism of the Catholic Church, prepared yearly for the St. Joseph’s Altar, and organized and managed the Adoration Chapel devotional hour schedule with her devoted husband Tony. She also enjoyed gardening and traveling, and her family loved her always delicious cooking and baking.
Althea was an independent business owner for many years, sharing and offering her talents to her community. Her ventures included Body Rapture in Uptown New Orleans, Jeanne’s Fashions in Flowers in Gretna, and her hair salon, A Cut Above, next to her brother Frank's dentistry office in Marrero.
Althea was a devoted daughter, wife, and mother. She is predeceased by parents Carolina Drago Ullo and Mike Ullo, as well as by brothers Chris Ullo (Joyce), Dr. Frank Ullo (Blanche), and Charles Ullo (Deena). Althea is survived by her husband Anthony "Tony" Chimento, Jr. of 67 years; children TerryLynn (Terry) Chimento, Judy Chimento Beverung (Keith), Holly Chimento Collector (Joe), and Anthony "Tony" Chimento III; daughter-in-law of Anthony "Tony" Chimento, Sr. and Bessie Sandrus Chimento; grandchildren Amber Beverung Adams (John Paul), Ethan Collector, and Chloe Collector; and great grandchildren Averie Adams and Tripp Adams.
