William "Butch" George Roeder

William George “Butch” Roeder, of Belle Chasse, LA, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the age of 73. Born on September 15, 1948 in Port Sulphur, LA Butch was the son of the late Curtis A. and Gene Ellzey Roeder of Venice, LA. He is survived by his loving wife of 49.5 years, Ina Mosley Roeder, beloved daughter Amanda Roeder Ledet, her husband Darren, and grandson, Christian Ledet; his brother, Ralph (Carol) Roeder, and sister-in-law Dora Roeder; nephews and nieces, Danny, David (Joyce), Michelle, Michael (Laura), and Mark Roeder, three great-nieces and three great-nephews; as well as cousins, Jay (Maria) Ellzey, Nancy (Riad) Arizi, Susan (Todd) Harvey, Jill (Doug) Brooks, and Betty (Elliott) Mistich, along with their children who dearly loved their Uncle Butch. Also survived by cousins, Judy Golitko, Janet Johannesen, Randy Baker, Don, Bob, Ken, and Max Ellzey, and Sue Rives. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents E.J. & Grace Ellzey, paternal grandparents George & Ethel Roeder, brother, Curtis E. Roeder, Uncle E.J. & Aunt Leonie Ellzey, Uncle B.B. & Aunt Hallie Baker, Uncle Richard & Aunt Jean Ellzey, Uncles George and Lynn Roeder, and Aunts Mary Russell and Jane Davis. A native of Venice, LA, Butch graduated from Boothville-Venice High School in 1967, and attended Southeastern Louisiana University and Louisiana College before joining the U.S. Army in 1970. Upon return from the Army, he began a lifelong career, and love, as an 18-wheeler truck driver/owner. From 1972 until 1990, he drove for Packard Truck Lines, Magnolia Trucking, and Acme Truck Lines. In 1990, he began a new career as an Operator with Chevron Oronite in Belle Chasse. During that time, he worked as an operator, head operator, technician, and supervisor retiring in 2011 after 21 years of service. He was an active member and instructor of the Chevron Emergency Response Team. Many special friendships were formed during these careers. Butch enjoyed spending time riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, which included two trips to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. He was a member of the White Deer Hunting Club where he enjoyed riding on the tractor, watching old western movies, and hanging out with wonderful friends. Most recently, he found a new adventure in camping with family and friends. Often referred to as “Grumpy” those that loved him knew he had a caring heart. His favorite title was, Grampy. He enjoyed watching Christian play football, throw the javelin at track events, and help him tinker with his truck.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Belle Chasse, 8828 Highway 23, from 9-11am on Friday, May 20, 2022, with funeral service beginning at 11am, interment immediately following at Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charitable organization of your choice. Family and friends may view and sign the online guest book at www.mothefunerals.com .
