Virginia "Ginny" Briand

Virginia “Ginny” Briand 75, passed away in her home on Thursday March 25th hand in hand with her husband. She was born on Victory in Europe day, marking the end of World War II and the initials of her maiden name, Virginia Eileen Daly (V.E.D.) paid tribute that historic day. She was born in Albany, New York to Marie Cranney Daly and upstate New York would never leave her heart. She graduated from the Nursing School at D’youville College in Buffalo, New York and then promptly joined the U.S. Navy. Virginia served her country proudly as a Naval Nurse before retiring to raise her children after marrying her husband, Frederick Briand. She was a voracious reader, and one of the finest Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune players the world has ever known. She was a devoted mother, a gourmet cook and as quick witted as they come. She was an active member of the Sages and The Ladies Guild at St. Andrew the Apostle Church and was active with the Tri-City Council of the Navy League of the United States. Virginia is survived by her husband, Frederick Briand (85) sons Joseph Briand (43) William Briand (41) Daughter Tricia Foltz (53) and Grandchildren Beverly, Margaret, Samuel, Elizabeth, Luke, Patrick, and Carrick. Per her wishes, there will be no funeral services, In lieu of flowers donations in her name can be made to The American Cancer Society. Virginia will be interned in her family plot at St. Agnes Cemetery in Albany, New York. Family and friends may view and sign the online guest book at www.mothefunerals.com .
