Vera E. Macaluso

December 11, 1932 — January 23, 2021

Vera E. Macaluso entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the age of 88. She was the beloved wife of the late Ephen J. Macaluso, and loving daughter of the late Everett Easley and Louise Schwartz Easley. She was the beloved mother of Michael Macaluso (Stacie) and Timothy Macaluso (Tracie). Grandmother of Leslie Macaluso, Amanda Macaluso, Deanna Miller (Mark), Kyle Macaluso and Gabrielle Macaluso, and great grandmother of Makenzie Miller and Rylie Miller. She was a loving sister of Carolyn Easley and the late Shira Easley, Larry Easley and Barbara Easley. Vera is also survived by her nephews, Nick Macaluso (Janine) and Dr. Joseph N. Macaluso, Jr. (Renee) and her nieces, Kristin Normand (Troy) and Karyn Badeaux (Travis). She was the sister-in-law to Col-Dr. Joseph Macaluso (Sally) and to Anne Macaluso (Nick). Vera is also survived by many great nieces and great nephews. She was born in Liverpool, Louisiana and became a lifelong resident of New Orleans, Louisiana. She taught for many years at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School in Algiers and later, at Archbishop Hannan High School in Meraux, LA. During her teaching career, Vera was active on several boards and councils, volunteered as a Lector for Parish Masses, and was a valued member of her professional organizations. For her many years of service in the parish, the school, and the community, Vera was awarded the prestigious Order of St. Louis IX Medallion by the Archdiocese. Vera was an avid reader and an eager learner, always ready for an often heated, but always civil, discussion. She was a marvelous, natural cook and generously shared the bounty from her kitchen, along with her recipes, with her friends and family. Her former students, even after 40 or more years, fondly recall their classes and special projects with her, and refer to her as a Master Teacher. Vera’s many friends enjoyed her lively company, her sense of humor, and her willingness to help them with any task. She remains part of their fondest memories, and she is dearly missed by them all. Due to the COVID Pandemic, attendees are limited to 100 persons. Each attendee is required to wear a face mask for the duration of the visitation and Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer’s Association of Louisiana, 3445 North Causeway Blvd., Suite 902, Metairie, Louisiana 70002, 1-800-272-3900 or visit www.alz.org
