Thomas Henry Kloor passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, August 8th, 2021, at the age of 93. Devoted husband to Catherine Berrigan Kloor for 69 years and loving father to Dr. Thomas H. Kloor, Jr. (Cynthia), Dr. Steven A. Kloor (Terri), and Catherine Kloor Wattigney (Capt. Louis Wattigney, Jr.). Beloved Grandfather to Jason Jeandron, Monique Gutierrez, Nicole Janz, Zachary Kloor, Jonathan Kloor, Alexandra Kloor, Kyle Kloor, Bradley Kloor, and Maurice Wattigney. Also survived by 13 Great-grandchildren.
Thomas was born in New Orleans on February 23, 1928 to the late Leonard A. Kloor and Louise Sirgo Kloor. Proceeded in death by his sister Lucille Kloor O’Connell and survived by his sister Elsa Kloor Nagy. Also, survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Thomas was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Belle Chasse for the past 22 years. Graduate of Warren Easton High school and Loyola University where he achieved a Bachelor’s in Business Administration.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Navy Corpsman; Greek Alumni board member of Loyola University and also served on the Alumni Board of Directors of Loyola University; Vice-President of Sigma Alpha Kappa Alumni Association; 2004 Alumnus of the year for Loyola University College of Business; 2007 Recipient of Loyola University Integritas Vitae Award. He and his wife, Catherine, were instrumental in establishing two professorships along with a scholarship benefitting Loyola University students.
As an owner of Jefferson Furniture Store, Inc., he participated in numerous member organizations and professional activities. He was a past president of the Westbank Lions Club and recipient of their Lion of the Year Award. He was a past member of the Board of Directors of the local chapter of the Louisiana Retailers Association; a founding director and Secretary of Lafayette Savings and Loan; a former Treasurer of the Jefferson Parish Council on Drug Abuse. He was a long-time sailing enthusiast with Corinthian Sailing Club. He attended many retreats at Manresa House of Retreats and was proud to be considered a Man of Manresa.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 610 Sixth Street, Gretna, LA, 70053 on Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 9 AM until Funeral Mass time at 10:30 AM. A private interment will follow at Hope Mausoleum, New Orleans, LA. Due to COVID-19, masks are required to attend the visitation and mass. In lieu of flowers, masses preferred. Memorial donations may also be made to Manresa House of Retreats, Convent, LA 70723.
