Thelma Dorothy Boudreaux Helmer entered the Kingdom of the Lord on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the age of 94. She was the wife of the late George P. Helmer III for 51 years, the mother of Rouge Helmer, Georga Helmer (Lionel), and the late Guy "Redbird" Helmer. Thelma was the daughter of the late Pauline and Neville "Duke" Boudreaux, the sister of the late Georgieanna Luke (Archie) and Clementine Esquivel (Raul), the sister-in- law of Cyril Helmer and Coralyn Hunt, aunt of Raul "Bobby" Esquivel (Soco) and the late Gregory Luke, godmother of Jan Luke Mule (the late Jim), and first cousin of Deanna Lirette.
Thelma retired from the City of New Orleans as a City Hall telephone operator after many years of service. Her dream was to be a teacher; she was a loving and generous person. Teaching people to dance, play pool and cards was her passion. She was an avid reader, who liked to crochet, and loved animals. Thelma had specific wishes written for her daughters, and although difficult, they are honoring them especially after the unexpected death of her dearly beloved son, so a private interment will be held Greenwood Cemetery and a Memorial Mass will also be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to LA Hospice at Hospice Promise Foundation, 3000 West Esplanade, Suite 301, Metairie, LA 70002. Many thanks to them for the great care they gave to Thelma.
