Tang D. Phan passed away on April 4, 2020 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of ThanhMy Tammy Phan for 63 years. Father of Nguyen Phan (Nina), Huan Phan (Thuy), Dina Phan, and Phi Phan (Hoa). Grandfather of Christina, Kimmy, KieuNhi, Truong, and Quoc. Tang is also survived by his younger sister Cuc Buu.
Tang’s favorite pastimes were football and bird-watching. He loved his family and friends just as much as he was passionate about his career, civil engineering, which opened many doors throughout his life. In 1949, he received a government scholarship to Paris to study Mathematics. In 1955, Tang graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussees , Paris, France. He returned to serve the South Vietnamese government in 1958 as a Civil Engineer. He was the General Director for Vietnam Highway Administration before the fall of Saigon in 1975. He left Vietnam to reside in the U.S. in 1980. In 1982, he was employed by the City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works. After 23 years of dedicated service, he ended his career as the Chief Engineer in 2005. A family visitation will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA., from 7am – 9am Thursday April 9, 2020. Graveside service to follow at Westlawn Memorial Park.
