Syble Whittington Mccullogh

August 14, 1943 — July 6, 2021

On Tuesday, July 6, 2021, Syble Whittington McCullogh, beloved wife, mother, and MiMi, passed away at the age of 77. Syble was born on August 14, 1943 in Benndale, Mississippi to James and Katherine (Allman) Whittington. On December 15,1973, she married Frederick Norman McCullogh, Jr. in New Orleans. Together they raised two children, Sara and Norman. She graduated from George County High School in Lucedale, Mississippi, and spent her early years working as a bank teller and manager. She met a young woman at the bank where she worked who happened to be Fred’s sister. Syble and Fred were introduced to each other, which led to Syble taking a position in New Orleans to live closer to him. Syble loved to travel, and spent time in several states and countries, enjoying everything each destination had to offer. From shopping the Christmas Markets in Germany and Austria, to seeing the beautiful sites in France, Italy, and Turkey; from cruising the beautiful waters of the Caribbean, sailing to Alaska and seeing the majestic mountains and nature’s wilderness, and so many family vacations that will always be remembered. Syble was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Harvey, and belonged to the ECW. For several years, you could find her at the Church’s annual Pumpkin Patch in October. She enjoyed volunteering for the Church’s Lent Gumbo Sale which served the local community, and she spent many hours helping with the Annual Silent Auction dinner. She loved her friends, and spending time with them were some of the highlights of her days. Whether it was trying a new restaurant, or trips to the coast for brunch and antique shopping, she was always happy to go on a new adventure. One of her favorite places to visit was Las Vegas. She always looked forward to planning a trip - whether it was with Fred, her daughter, a niece, or a friend - they always had a wonderful time. Above all, family was everything to Syble. She loved them fiercely, unconditionally - and always made sure they knew how she felt. As her family grew, the happier she was. She and Fred built a wonderful, beautiful life together, and their children and grandchildren have always known they were blessed to have such an amazing woman they called “Mom” and “MiMi”. She was preceded in death by her mother Katherine, and her father James; her sister Margaret Collins; and her brothers Earl *Boots* Gibson, James Whittington, Jr., Marshall Whittington, and Robert Whittington. She is survived by her adoring husband, Fred; her daughter Sara McCullogh Johnson and her husband Scott; her son Frederick Norman McCullogh, III and his wife Danielle; her grandchildren Jessica Johnson Beasley, Kaitlyn Renee Johnson, Emma Grace Johnson, Patrick Scott Johnson, Jr., and Joshua “JJ” McCullogh; her great-granddaughter, Nola Grace Beasley; her sisters Shirley Gonzales, Laura King (Ural), Helen Ford (Edward) and Diane Berry (Keith); sisters-in-law Nancy Whittington, Glenda Whittington, and Linda Whittington; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 from nine to eleven o’clock in the morning at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, Louisiana. A Funeral Mass will be held in the chapel immediately following the visitation. Interment will be at First Jesus Name Church, 8124a Highway 57 in Lucedale, Mississippi.
