Awcs Stephen W. Tobin, Sr. Usn (Ret.)

AWCS Stephen W. Tobin Sr., U.S.N. (Ret.) passed away on August 23, 2022 at the age of 80. Beloved husband of Verna Landreneau Tobin. Father of Stephen W. Tobin Jr. (Laura), Erin Tobin Underwood, and Christopher M. Tobin. Step-father of Joseph Kirk Lee (Sharon), Malcolm Paul Lee, and Angella Lee Nash (Robert). Grandfather of Paul, Heather (Dustin), Christopher Jr., Isabel, Lily, David, Daniel, Michael, Knox, and the late Jonathan. Great-grandfather of Mason. Brother of Linda Shavone (David), Gregory Tobin (Nelda), and the late James Tobin Jr. Son of the late James Tobin Sr. and Katherine Snell Tobin. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Stephen was born in Framingham, MA, raised in Cochituate, MA, and graduated from Marian High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and retired after nearly 30 years of dedicated service. Amongst his many duties, his specialty throughout his military career was anti-submarine warfare. He served on both the HS-1 helicopters and P-3 Orion aircrafts. He also served as a SAR (Search and Rescue) flight crew member in the Vietnam War. As a SAR swimmer, he picked up Gemini astronauts after splashdown, a memory which was often shared with friends and family. He was highly decorated and was proud of his Navy career. In his post-Navy days, he worked in quality control for Petrotech and worked at Superior Honda. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 202 in Topsham, ME for 42 years. He will be sadly missed.

A visitation will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Boulevard, Marrero, LA on Monday, August 29, 2022 from 9am to 11am. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment with military honors will be held at Southeast LA Veteran’s Cemetery in Slidell, LA for 1:30pm.
