Shirley Huff Grundmeyer lifelong resident of Algiers, LA entered into eternal rest on Thursday December 24, 2020 at age 90. She was born on January 12, 1930 to the late Thomas Huff and Barbara Alley Huff. She was raised on the river batture by two very special parents, the late Clifton “Yippie” Wattigny and Alice “Alley” Wattigny. Shirley was the beloved wife of 55 years to the late Arthur “Nook” Grundmeyer, Jr. She was a loving mother to Darlene G. Foster (the late Sidney), the late Debra G. Oiler (John), Arthur “Nookie” Grundmeyer III (Maria) and Darnell G. Smith (Gary). Proud and loving grandmother of Johnny (Lisa), Kim (Andre’), Lisa (John), Pam, Coty, Debra (Dan), Olivia (Todd), Luke, Julie (Rollin) and Daniel (Taylor). Loving Great grandmother to John IV, Lacey, Bryan, Zachary, Patience, Lisa, Harlee, Ryder, Racyn, Brandi, Kandise, Amanda, Danny, Dominick, Sophia, Ava, Cayden, Savannah and Gavin. Great great-grandmother of Josh, Bentley, Angelo, Blake, Leo, Vin, Paxton and Caroline. God Mother of Belinda, Ennis, Clifton Jr. and the late Mary Kay. She is survived by her sisters Mary McGovern (the late John), Dawn Hartzog (the late Lawrence), Barbara Gregoire (the late Henry), Rita Nunez and her brothers William Huff (Brenda) and Vic Nunez (Chris). She is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters Clifton E. Huff (late Audrey), Evelyn Huff Warnken (the late Calvin), Don Wattigny (Edith), Clifton Wattigny (Toni), and Cathy Madere (Al). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley was a homemaker for most of her married life. She enjoyed going to Las Vegas and playing slots at the local casinos. She loved shopping at Dollar Tree and going to the “Gold Show” in the convention center. She spent many of her younger years with her Monday night card games with some special ladies in her card club. For many years she hosted every Christmas Eve for family and friends and how special that she leave this earth on Christmas Eve. She touched many lives along the way and was loved by all that knew her.
A very special thank you to all the staff of Tranquil Living who cared for her for this past year and also Westbank Lighthouse.
Due to current restrictions and inherent health risks, funeral services were held privately at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Algiers. Burial followed at Westlawn Memorial Park. Masses or donations in her memory may be made to the Arthritis Foundations ( www.arthritis.org ).
