Rosalie M. McCants, a long time resident of New Orleans, died in her sleep on May 14, 2021. She was 93.
Rosalie McCants was born on April 13, 1928 in New Orleans to Josephine and Leon Maggio. She graduated from Martin Behrman High School in Algiers and she married Junius Earl McCants Jr. in 1945.
Rosalie was the manager of Godchauxs Federal Credit Union from 1955-1987. After that, she worked for ASI (Avondale Shipyard Inc.) from 1987-2002. Rosalie worked hard and she was able to retire when she was in her seventies.
Rosalie loved her crafts, she loved to knit, and crochet. She made many sweaters, afghans, baby booties, and blankets for her family and friends. She was the president of the Ladies Ball Room Club for many years, and she also belonged to the Bunco Club and The Sages. In addition she enjoyed traveling with her family and friends.
Rosalie McCants is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Junius Earl McCants Jr. and daughter Janice McCants Bouquet and her parents, Leon Joseph Maggio and Josephine Rizzuto Maggio, her sisters Kathleen Talbot, Marilyn Marlbrough and brother Leon Maggio Jr.
Rosalie is survived by her son Junius E. McCants III and wife Dominica and son-in-law David L. Bouquet. She was blessed with four grandchildren Michael Kyle McCants, Brian Joseph McCants and wife Nina, Jennifer Marie Bouquet Osterhaus and husband Matt Osterhaus and Kristin Marie McCants. Four great grandchildren Evan, Charlotte, and Alex Osterhaus, and Leila Rose McCants.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Passages Hospice and Woldenberg Village for all the care and support, during her stay.
A special thanks to Michael Kyle McCants for his extraordinary care of his grandmother and Brenda Gautreaux for her friendship and care over the last several years.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, located at 3101 Eton St. New Orleans, La 70131 at 11am on Monday, May 24, 2021. The visitation will begin at 9am, interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery.
