Ronald Joseph Toups
March 26, 1948 — September 7, 2021
Ronald Joseph Toups passed away peacefully on September 7, 2021 at the age of 73. Beloved husband of 50 years to Cynthia Thompson Toups. Father of Bonnie Toups Halstead (Ronald) and Aaron J. Toups (Melanie). Grandfather of Grant Halstead, Cade Toups and the late Katherine Halstead. Brother of Geraldine Gros (A.J.) and the late Deborah Toups Labruzza. Son of the late Emelda Guidry Toups Hensley and John Toups.
Ron was a true “First Responder”, fulfilling every opportunity to serve his community. At the young age of 17, he began his career with the David Crockett Fire Company until he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving for 2 years. Upon his return home, he continued to serve his community in various aspects of Fire/Police/EMS, earning his E.M.T. certification in 1984. Ron worked at West Jefferson Medical Center and Gretna Police Department, teaching numerous CPR and First Aid classes throughout his remaining years as an instructor. Ron is a lifetime member of the Louisiana State Fireman’s Association, served as Assistant Fire Chief for Harvey Vol. Fire Company No. 2. His lifelong dedication as a “First Responder” inspired many others to follow.
Throughout his tenure, Ron had many friends and colleagues who remained lifelong friends. He will be truly missed.
Ron loved music, especially “the oldies” and could always name the title and artist. His love of music led to a self-made disc jockey business that he had for many years which he handed down to his son-in-law and son. Ron will always be remembered for his infectious smile and his kind personality.
Visitation will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 9am to 11am. A Funeral Mass will be held in the funeral home chapel. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna, LA.
Respectful of current guidelines, all attendees should wear their own mask/face covering and practice distancing.
