Robert "Bobby" Lloyd Acosta

Robert (Bobby) Lloyd Acosta Sr., age 87 passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2022, surrounded by his family in Lakeland Florida. Robert Acosta is preceded in death by his wife, Sadie McCloskey Acosta; his son, Elliott Joseph Acosta Sr.; his grandson, Elliott Joseph Acosta Jr.; his parents, Clarence and Notelia Acosta; his siblings, Lillian Acosta Vial (Roy), Annie Acosta, Virginia Acosta Allen (Lucien “Gayle”), Emelda Acosta, Alvin Acosta (Allie “Anne”), Margaret Acosta Andrews (George), Clarence Acosta (Doris), Dorothy Acosta Marino (Joseph) and Edward Acosta (Vera). Loving father of Kathy Acosta Donaway (Earl), Robert Acosta Jr. (Yvonne), Blaine Acosta (Connie) and Shane Acosta. A proud grandfather of Landon Donaway, Tyler Donaway, Loren Donaway Haynes , Cody Acosta, Bradley Acosta and great grandfather of 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A special thank you from the family to his devoted friends, Tony Usey and Lois Mitchell, for always being there and taking care of Robert. He grew up in Algiers and as a teenager he started boxing for the local boxing club. In 1952 he served in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict Era and Peacetime and was on the USMC boxing team in Kodiak, Alaska. When he returned home, he worked for the Southern Pacific Rail Road until he became a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitting Union. In his spare time he loved fishing, hunting and watching football, especially the New Orleans Saints. He resided in Harvey, LA, for over 50 years and for the last few months of his life lived in Lakeland, Florida with his daughter Kathy and family. Robert Lloyd Acosta was a very happy and loving person who never met a stranger, loved to joke and make people laugh. He will be missed very much.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation and Memorial Service at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Friday September 23, 2022, from 9 AM until 11 AM.
