Peggy Hunter Bourgeois

April 5, 1932 — March 23, 2021

With saddened hearts, we announce the death of our mom, Peggy Hunter Bourgeois. Peggy went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 23, 2021, at the age of 88. Thirteen days short of her 89th birthday. She was born on April 5, 1932, in Marrero, Louisiana, to the late Lee Edward Hunter and the late Amely Barris.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Irvin A. Bourgeois. Her son-in-law, Fred J. Muller, her step-granddaughter, Darlene Passalaqua Schexnayder and step-grandson-in-law, Kip Kreutz. Also, preceded in death by her 10 siblings, Alcide, Warren, Ray, Roy, Herman, Delia Vicari, Bernice Simon, Anna Lee Russell, Mary “Du” Nocito and Emily Richoux Stiles. She was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Louis, Sidney, Theophile, and Eddie and sisters-in-law, Beaulah DiGiovanni, Bernice Alello, Annie Bruno and Inez Lobue.

She is survived by children, Lee Bourgeois (Elaine), Irvin Bourgeois, Jr. (Patti), Kim Bourgeois Muller Passalaqua (Joseph), and Tod Bourgeois (Jacqueline). She was the loving grandmother of Lee Bourgeois, Jr. (Laura), Lacey Bourgeois Jones (Jeffrey), Stacey Bourgeois Champagne (Keith), Lauren Bourgeois Mays (Jack Jr.), Kendall Passalaqua (Lauren), Megan Passalaqua Parker (James Jr.), step-grandmother of Diann Passalaqua Kreutz, David Passalaqua, Ferdie Schexnayder, and Fred Muller, Jr. Loving great-grandmother of Jacey Jones, Jenna Jones, Joel Jones, Kayden Champagne, Kameron Champagne, Madison Mays, Connor Mays, Paisley Mays and Juilette Mays, step-great-grandmother of Landon Champagne, Noah Guey, Katie Babin, Grant Babin, Jason Schexnayder (Lisa), Christopher Schexnayder and Nicholas Kreutz (Sydney). Step-great-great-grandmother of Hanah Bancovitch. Peggy is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Patricia Hunter, Bessie Bourgeois Beroular, Helen Bourgeois, Margaret Bourgeois, Ruby Bourgeois, and her only brother-in-law, Camille Bourgeois. She is survived by her nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Peggy lived in Marrero for 46 years, before moving with her husband to Barataria, LA. After Katrina, she moved into Wynhoven Apartments, in Marrero, LA. For the last 15 months of her life, she lived with her daughter, in River Ridge, LA. Peggy had a strong Catholic faith and belonged to Visitation of Our Lady Parish, in Marrero, LA, most of her life. During the time, she belonged to the VOL Parish, she had retired years ago from working as the cook/house keeper at the rectory. She belonged to the Knights of Columbus, St. Thomas More 7226 Auxiliary, and was a medallion recipient of the Order of St. Louis, from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Peggy loved being with her family and friends. She was so happy to make new friends while she lived at Wynhoven Apartments. She will be deeply missed by many. Before becoming sickly, she loved painting, sewing, crocheting, and cross stitching. More recently she enjoyed her Seek and Find puzzles.

The family would like to thank the Emergency Room Doctors and Staffs at both West Jefferson and Ochsner Main Campus Hospitals, who have cared for our mom this past year. Special thanks to her private doctors who have taken such good care of our mom over the years, Dr. Hong Nguyen, Dr. Judy Kang, Dr. Richard Paddock, Dr. Edmund Kerut, Dr. Ahmed, Dr. Suzette Killeen and Dr. Maria Ribando Burmaster. Special thanks to the staff of Carpenter House/St. Joseph Hospice, in River Ridge, LA, who took such special care of our mom in her last few days of her life, especially Ms. CoCo and Ms. Cathy.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral mass on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 11AM at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 LAPALCO BLVD., in Marrero. Visitation will begin at 9am. Interment will follow immediately after at St. Pius X Cemetery in Crown Point, LA.
