Patrick Joseph Reed

Patrick Joseph Reed passed away peacefully on January 26, 2022, at the age of 91, at his daughter Maggie’s home in Katy, Texas surrounded by his loved ones. Patrick was a former resident of Marrero, Belle Chasse and Gretna, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Ignatius Reed and Margaret Hopel Reed, his siblings Elaine R. Presler, Joyce E. Reed and Marvin J. Reed and his former spouses Sylvia Templet Reed of Belle Chasse and Gladys Holladay Reed of Marrero. Patrick is survived by his daughters Cindy E. Reed, Patricia A. Reed, Kathy M. (Brian) McNamara, Maggie M. (Chuck) Malley and Sylvia M. (Anthony “News”) Barrois, his granddaughters Angelic A. Reed-Greco, Skyler A. Malley, and Madison A. Malley, his great grandsons Devin P. Carney and Lucius E. Werlein and numerous nieces and nephews.
Patrick served his country in the United States Army. He was a retired train engineer for Union Pacific Railroad in Avondale, Louisiana, a former employee of Avondale Shipyard in Westwego and Todd Shipyard in Algiers. He also had his own dump truck route.
Patrick was a member of Our Lady Perpetual Help Church in Belle Chasse and Our Lady of Visitation Church in Marrero. While a parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, he was awarded The Order of St. Louis Medal by the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He served as Fair Chair couple bingo caller, a Eucharist minister, Usher, a member of the choir and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society at OLPH. While a parishioner at Our Lady of Visitation Church he carried the gift box at communion, ushered and volunteered at the school fair. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Belle Chasse, and the Golden Age Club in Marrero. He loved to call Bingo and volunteered for many years in both parishes.

Patrick was easy going, always had a smile on his face and he enjoyed cracking jokes. He loved to talk about religion, politics, history, as well as sing, dance, and work in his yard.

The family would like to give special thanks to hospice nurse Pam Fernandez with Three Oaks Hospice, in Katy, Texas.
In honor of Pat’s favorite color and his St. Patrick’s Day birthday, please join us in wearing green to the services. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Visitation of Our Lady Catholic Church, 3500 Ames Boulevard (corner Barataria Boulevard), Marrero, LA on Monday, February 7th, 2022 at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at Hook and Ladder Cemetery, 1100 Lafayette Street, Gretna LA. Visitation will be held 11:00 AM for family and friends at noon followed by the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests for masses to be said in Patrick’s name and for donations to be sent to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America ( www.alzfdn.org ).
