Pamela J. Briggs

June 22, 1953 — June 3, 2022

Pamela J. Briggs passed away at her daughter’s home surrounded by her husband and children on June 3, 2022. She was born June 22, 1953, in Olean, New York, to the late James and Betty Spears. She was predeceased by her brother James A. Spears. Pamela was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Pam grew up in Olean, NY and graduated college with a Bachelor’s of Education degree from St. Bonaventure University in Alleghany, NY. In 1976, she married Ernest H. Briggs III of Eldred, Pa. Together, they relocated to Marrero, Louisiana in 1983. Pam loved teaching and touched many lives as a first grade, kindergarten and then pre-kindergarten teacher at Miller Wall Elementary for 29 years. She loved to spend time and travel with her friends. Pam spent every summer returning to Olean, NY where she spent countless visits with relatives. Each summer was spent creating great memories for her children and grandchildren through playing cards, solving crossword puzzles, watching old re-runs and traveling 45 minutes to Texas Hots Restaurant in Wellsville, NY to have hot dogs with her family for breakfast! The past eight months of her illness was spent sarcastically joking with doctors and nurses as well as family. She never gave up hope and continued to make others smile even when she was not feeling well. Her kind heart, overwhelming generosity and quick wit sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her love, support and smile will be forever treasured by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ernest H. Briggs III, her four children: Jamie and Ron Chesterman of Marrero, La., Ernest and Amberly Briggs IV of Mobile, Al., Army Captain Shawn M. Briggs currently residing in Alexandria, Va., and Casey and Hollye Briggs of Baton Rouge, La. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Tristan (Cheyenne) Montgomery, Jaci Briggs-Montgomery (Brandon Toney), Cadence Chesterman (Ashton Racheau), Adeline Laubinger, Lenora Briggs, Lola Briggs, and honorary grandson Wesson Matherne, as well as three great-grandchildren: Nola and Arizona Montgomery and Daymon Toney. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 7pm. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 5pm until 7pm. Pam’s love of children can be continued by a donation in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate .
